How to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or new iPad with RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 [Video]

It’s finally here folks, the official downgrade tool for A5 devices!

Indeed, you can now downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or new iPad () with the latest version of 0.9.11b1. Downgrading will allow you to perform an untethered on your , or running .0.1 firmware.

Check out our tutorial for the step-by-step downgrade instructions inside…

Note: You must have your SHSH blobs for either stored locally by means of TinyUmbrella, etc., or Cydia must have your 5.0.1 blobs for this downgrade to work successfully.

Step 1: Download the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 from our downloads page.

Step 2: Download the latest firmware (5.1.1) for your device from our downloads page, along with the 5.0.1 firmware.

Step 3: Place your device into DFU mode.

Step 4: Run RedSn0w 0.9.11b1, and make sure RedSn0w detects your device in DFU mode. Navigate to Extras > Even more > Restore and click IPSW under the IPSW section. RedSn0w will then ask you for your iOS 5.0.1 IPSW. Once you locate iOS 5.0.1, RedSn0w will ask your for the latest firmware (iOS 5.1.1).

Step 5: Once both firmwares have been validated, it’s time to locate your saved SHSH blobs. If you’ve jailbroken your device before, you should have those available on Cydia, and therefore you can use the Remote option. If you’ve never jailbroken your device before, but you saved your SHSH blobs with a tool like TinyUmbrella, then choose Local and browse your computer for your blobs. We’d recommend clicking the Remote option first.

Step 6: Once your blobs have been verified, there is nothing left for you to do, just let RedSn0w execute the full process. First RedSn0w will install a hacked version of the latest firmware (iOS 5.1.1), and then it will downgrade your firmware to iOS 5.0.1.

Step 7: Upon downgrading successfully you will be presented with a success message. Now all you have to do is setup your device, and verify that you are now on iOS 5.0.1 via Settings > General > About on your device.

What’s Next?

Most people will want to jailbreak their newly downgraded device. If you’re using an A5 device like the 2, or 4S, you can now jailbreak using Corona-A5. You can do this directly from RedSn0w. We will have a tutorial that shows you jailbreak your A5 device using RedSn0w in the near future. Until then, you can always use a tool like Absinthe to jailbreak as well.

Were you able to downgrade successfully? Have any tips or tricks? Please share them below!

How to unlock any jailbroken iPhone on iOS 5.0 or later on any baseband [Video]

Unlocking the iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 4 just got a whole lot easier thanks to the package revealed earlier this morning.

After alerting you guys to the news, we went into out labs and started testing this for ourselves. After a few failures, we were finally able to come up with a reliable method for making this work every time.

The good news is that this will likely become even easier as time goes on, and needless steps are eliminated. We’re already to the point where we can switch back and forth between our AT&T SIM card and our SIM card without having to reconfigure anything. It’s pretty awesome.

Check inside for our full that shows unlock any iPhone on iOS 5 or higher (running any ) using the SAM package…

This tutorial is as simple as it gets. Just follow it for an easy iPhone unlock solution.

Your iPhone must be jailbroken on iOS 5 or higher. Baseband is irrelevant. Keep your current SIM in your iPhone until instructed to remove it in step 4.

Step 1: Add the following repo to your Cydia sources: repo.bingner.com and then install SAM.

Step 2: Open SAM, go to Utilities, and tap Deactivate.

Step 3: Go back to the SAM main menu, and tap More Information. Under SIM Details copy your IMSI number.

Step 4: Remove your SIM, and replace it with the SIM you wish to use (i.e. T-Mobile).

Step 5: With SAM enabled, tap Method, and select By Country and Carrier. Go back a menu, and select the correct country and then the correct carrier for your SIM card.

Step 6: Go back to More Information, and tap Spoof Real SIM to SAM. Next under SAM Details, delete the current IMSI number, and replace it with the one you copied in step 3.

Step 7: On the SAM main menu go to Utilities, and tap Attempt Activation. Your device should respring if done correctly.

Step 8: Open SAM and disable SAM. Close SAM.

Step 9: Open iTunes and plug in your device to your computer. You may have to unplug it and plug it in a few times. Be patient. You should receive a message stating that it failed to activate your device, but that’s a good thing, click ok. Be patient, and eventually you will see the carrier logo for your new SIM.

Note: From here on out you can freely switch between your original SIM and your new SIM. All you need to do is plug in the device and repeat step 9 to activate your desired SIM. Please see our video tutorial for more details.

I know that there will likely be variations of this tutorial, or a simpler less step-driven method to come. We will have a more fleshed out comprehensive follow-up on the unlock in the near future.

How to save your Activation Ticket to preserve your unlock

For the record, MuscleNerd has stated that he recommends saving off your Activation Ticket for each SIM that you use, as they might come in handy in the future. These can be found at: /var/Root/ibrary/Lockdown and you can access this easily with iFile or via SSH.

This is perfect for those of you who travel abroad or who need a second SIM card. It’s been working great for me thus far, what about you?

How to officially unlock your AT&T iPhone without losing your untethered jailbreak

The good news came out a week ago that would finally allow its customers with an off contract to officially unlock their device for free. In essence, the steps required to get the ball rolling are pretty simple. You just need to place a call to AT&T or hop on a chat with them online.

After collecting some basic information from you, AT&T will take its sweet time (72 hours to 2 weeks) to verify you are indeed illegible for unlocking your iPhone. Upon approval, you will then receive an email with instructions to complete the .

But the caveat is that, if like many people out there you care about your jailbreak, you might not be able to update without losing your untethered jailbreak. This was one of my main concerns at first. I requested the unlock authorization from AT&T for my running , and even though it is not my primary device, I didn’t want to lose my untether .

But unlike the email AT&T sends you upon approval of your iPhone unlock suggests, you do not have to completely restore your iPhone to complete the unlock

How to unlock your iPhone without having to restore or lose your untethered jailbreak:

Step 1: the latest version of RedSn0w, available in our downloads section.

Step 2: Plug your iPhone in and follow the steps to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Step 3: Once recognizes your iPhone, select the “Jailbreak” option.

Step 4: On the following screen, make sure to deselect “Install Cydia” and select “Deactivate”.

Step 5: RedSn0w will then work its magic on your iPhone. Your device will have lines of codes running on the screen, which is normal.

Step 6: Wait for your device to reboot and launch iTunes. iTunes will then give you this message telling you that you have successfully unlocked your iPhone.

And you are done!

If you follow the steps above, you will be able to officially unlock your iPhone without losing one byte of data. All your apps, tweaks, contacts, pictures, everything will still be there, just like it was 5 minutes before.
