AssistantExtensions, gives Siri much more power than what it has now. It’s a framework which is based on MobileSubstrate and can control a lot of things on your and provide platform for other developers to come up with their own extensions to bring more funtinalities to Siri.

How to Install Siri on iPad 2

1

on the 2 is now a reality, courtesy of the iPad 2 untethered jailbreak. It became a lot more compelling with the release of tweaks like SiriToggles, and updates to Hands-Free Control.

We’ve already shown you how to install Siri on the iPhone 4, so we’ll use that along with some additional key information to help you get Siri running on the iPad 2!

Note: You will need a jailbroken iPad 2 running .1 to achieve this. You can learn how to jailbreak your iPad 2 here. You will also need SiriProxy, which I show you install using Ubuntu. SiriProxy will work with other operating systems, but I’ve found Ubuntu to be incredibly straight forward and dependable, plus it’s free.

Step 1: Get intimately familiar with our Spire Tutorial, and use it to install .

Step 2: Install Spire on the iPad 2.

Note: Again, do this at your own risk. This could make your iPad kick into “iPhone mode” which makes your screen look funky, as everything is sized for iPhone. A quick respring should fix this, but you’ve been warned. I had no problems with it, but it’s worth noting.

  • and install iFile from Cydia. Open iFile and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
  • Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from On to Off and tap Done. Restart your iPad.
  • Once back up, open Cydia, and install Spire, it will ask you to reboot again.
  • Once back up, go back into /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/ using iFile. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
  • Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from Off to On and tap Done and exit iFile.

Step 3: Download an install Dropbox; log in, and download the ca.pem file that was placed there in the initial Siri Proxy Tutorial. (Select it, copy link, paste link in Safari Browser). The Install Profile window should open, select Install, and tap Done.

Step 4: Open iFile and navigate to /etc/. Tap hosts and choose Text Viewer. Tap Edit in the upper-left hand corner, and add the following line:

127.0.0.1 guzzoni.apple.com

Tap Save then tap Done.

Step 5: Open the Settings app and go to General > Siri. Enable Siri.

Step 6: Open the Settings app and under Extensions select Spire. Type the following in the Proxy Host field:

https://guzzoni.apple.com

Step 7: Open iFile and navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/. Once there tap and open com.apple.assistant.plist

Tap on Accounts > Choose your hex key (this will be a random alphanumeric value) > and add the following three fields utilizing the “+” sign in the bottom right-hand corner, then tap Done:

  • Ace Host
  • Assistant Identifier
  • Speech Identifier

Step 8: Open Settings > Wi-Fi > and Select the right blue arrow corresponding to your Wi-Fi connection. Change the DNS field to the IP address of your Siri Proxy Server. Again, if you need help with this, get familiar with our original Siri Proxy Tutorial.

Step 9: Exit Settings, and test Siri by pressing and holding the Home button. You should also see feedback in the terminal window of your Ubuntu server, just like you did when running Siri Proxy on the , or iPhone 4.

Step 10: Install some cool plugins like Hands-Free Control or SiriToggles and really have fun. They both work well on iPad 2.

And that’s it folks. If you have any issues, be sure to re-read our previous Spire tutorial.

At first I wasn’t sure how useful Siri would be on the iPad 2, but now that there are jailbreak tweaks that take advantage of Siri, I think it’s awesome! What do you think?

How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 With Absinthe for Windows

0

Alright all of you users, as promised, the Chronic Dev Team has just released a Windows version of its new jailbreak utility, . The software works on both the and the .

The program is pretty straight-forward. So if you’re a veteran jailbreaker, feel free to grab Absinthe from our Downloads page and get started. But for those looking for help, here’s an easy to follow step-by-step

Before we get started, you’ll need to make sure that your 2 is on .0.1 ( 4S users can be on 5.0 or 5.0.1). You can find that out by going to Settings > General > About. It should say what firmware your on under Version.

Now onto the jailbreaking!

Step 1. Grab Absinthe for Windows from our Downloads page. Once it’s finished downloading, unzip the file and then open it as an administrator.

Step 2. Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your computer via its USB cable.

Step 3. Once Absinthe has recognized that there is a device connected to your computer, click the Jailbreak button.

Step 4. After the program is done running (and not a second before), go to your device’s home screen and locate the Absinthe icon. Click it. This executes the final stage of the jailbreak.

Step 5. Once that’s finished, your device should restart itself. And you should notice that the Cydia icon has replaced the Absinthe one. Enjoy.

If you get the “Error Establishing Database Connection” error, don’t worry, we have a fix for that. We also have a list of some common jailbreak issues, and solve them. Otherwise, you shouldn’t run into any problems.

Once your device is jailbroken, be sure to check our some of our favorite Cydia packages. We have a list of the best ones for both the iPad and the iPhone, and even have some cool Siri tweaks for the iPhone 4S.

users, your time is here! The Dev Team has released a CLI tool update that adds support for users.

This tool will allow you to perform an on both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 using the Windows command prompt.

Check inside to download version 0.4.3 of the CLI tool, and for a step-by-step that shows you how.

Notes: Before you start, remove any passcode protection you have on your device. This will save you a lot of headaches. Also, be SURE your have you device plugged in, Windows recognizes it (you should have iTunes installed for the necessary drivers), and you run CMD as an admin. In fact, it may be good to just reboot your computer cleanly just in case. Most importantly, read and watch the tutorial before beginning.

Step 1: Download and extract version 0.4.3 or later of the RedSn0w CLI tool to the root of your hard drive from the Downloads Page.

Step 2: Connect your or to your Windows computer.

Step 3: Open a command prompt with administrator privileges, and navigate to the download directory of the cinject_0.4.3 folder.

Step 4: Execute the following commands:

cinject -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig

After this command, you will see a Install Profile prompt on your iPhone 4S or , be sure to tap Install and then Next on the prompt on your iPhone 4S or 2 to accept the profile.

Now continue to type the following in your command prompt:

cinject -j payloads
cinject -w

Step 5: On your iPhone 4S, go to Settings > Network > VPN, and toggle the VPN setting on. It will load a bit, and then you should get the following: “A configuration error occurred.” That is normal, just proceed with the tutorial.

Step 6: After a few seconds, your iPhone should reboot, and you’ll notice errors in the command prompt window, this is normal. It should look similar to what’s in the README file that came with the exploit download.

Step 7: After toggling, eventually you should see something like this:

Jan 21 08:44:46 iPhone cleanup[208] : Removing WebClip
Jan 21 08:44:46 iPhone jb[195] : 2012-01-21 08:44:46.473 cleanup[208:707
] Removing WebClip
Jan 21 08:44:46 iPhone jailbreak[195]: Installing filemover…

After you see that, unlock your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, and you should see Cydia on the desktop.

That’s it, that’s how you jailbreak the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 using the CLI from the Dev Team. If you have questions, comments or concerns leave them for us below. We highly recommend watching the tutorial above, which gives a in-depth overview of the CLI tool for Windows users.

Are you happy to have the A5 untethered jailbreak on Windows?

Update: Many users are reporting a “Send1: Response too large” error. If that happens, many report that unplugging the USB cable, and plugging it back in works. Let us know.

Update 2: If you have a lot of content on your device, it may cause the jailbreak to run slow, or at times even fail with errors. You may be better off backing up your device, restoring to a clean install of /5.0.1, jailbreaking using this , then restoring. It’s worth a shot if you’ve exhausted all other options. For what it’s worth, we personally recommend doing it this way.

Dev Team Releases CLI Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

0

As promised, the infamous Dev Team has just released its CLI jailbreak which is compatible with both the and the 2. It’s still for Mac users only, but it does provide an alternative to the Absinthe app.

We must warn you though that this isn’t your typical software. CLI stands for Command Line Interface, meaning using it isn’t as easy as clicking the “” button. It’s definitely not for the feint of heart…

Here’s how the Dev Team describes its CLI app:

“The OS X version of the CLI mentioned in the post can be downloaded here. It’s primarily to help us debug specific issues, but tinkerers might like to play around with some of its advanced options!”

So essentially, the majority of users should stay with Absinthe or wait for the Dev Team to release a new version of RedSn0w. If you’re really interested in trying CLI, stay tuned for our step-by-step on use it.
